MMCM(SW) Robert Elwood, USN(Ret) Joins as Planning Manager

Bartlett Maritime Corporation is pleased to announce that MMCM(SW) Robert Elwood, USN(Ret), has joined the company as Planning Manager.

During his active duty service, Master Chief Bob Elwood achieved multiple distinctions. He is a Plankowner on each of the first three Nimitz Class aircraft carriers, USS Nimitz (CVN 68), USS Dwight D Eisenhower (CVN 69) and USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70). He also has completed multiple overhauls in Naval Shipyards on these ships as well as on USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72). As the senior enlisted member of the Reactor Department on three different aircraft carriers, he was the crew’s “Bull Nuke,” or Senior Enlisted Advisor, to the Reactor Officer. In addition, when the Navy experienced a shortage of nuclear qualifed surface warfare officers and authorized senior enlisted personnel to qualify for and stand watch as Propulsion Plant Watch Officer, Master Chief Elwood was the first person in the US Navy to earn that distinction and qualification. He served in this role for more than 12 years of his 22 years of sea duty. A Cleveland, OH, area native, Master Chief Elwood joins CAPT Frank Simei, USN(Ret), as the resident technical experts at Bartlett Maritime Corporation in nuclear powered aircraft carrier design, operation and maintenance. This is important because, even though the planned American Naval Shipyard at Lorain will be solely focused on submarine maintenance, the American Naval Depot at Lordstown will maintain equipment from both submarines and aircraft carriers.

Commenting on the addition of Master Chief Elwood to the Bartlett Maritime Corporation staff, Bartlett Maritime Corporation Vice President, Planning RDML Robert Frick, USN(Ret), noted, “Master Chief Elwood is exceptionally well qualified to join our team in support of restoring the required capacity and capability in the Navy’s Naval Shipyard industrial enterprise. After a lifetime of service to the US Navy, he remains completely committed to excellence and to restoring and maintaining the complete readiness of our Navy’s nuclear-powered fleet. We are pleased that another Cleveland-area native has joined our team, and I look forward to working with Master Chief Elwood to resolve this urgent National Security issue.”
