Rear Admiral Robert E. Frick, USN(Ret), Joins as Vice President, Planning

Bartlett Maritime Corporation is pleased to announce that Rear Admiral Robert E. Frick, USN (Ret), has joined the company as Vice President, Planning.

Rear Admiral Frick has unparalleled experience in all aspects of submarine design, construction, operation, and maintenance. Prior to converting to the Acquisition Line Community and serving as PEO Submarines, Rear Admiral Frick had a full career in submarine operations. Serving on five submarines, he participated in four major shipyard periods, including while in Command of USS Birmingham (SSN 695). This experience in multiple Naval Shipyards gives Rear Admiral Frick unique insight into the key factors which determine success or failure in major ship maintenance periods. He also served as Senior Member on the Pacific Fleet Nuclear Propulsion Examining (ORSE) Board. After converting to the Acquisition Line Community, he served as NAVSEA Deputy Commander, Submarines, SEA 92 and was a key leader in the successful construction and delivery programs for the Seawolf Class SSNs. As PEO Submarines he was a key leader in completing the analysis of alternatives and then in establishing the successful Virginia Class construction teaming program. Following his Navy retirement Rear Admiral Frick has had a successful career in the private sector, supporting the US Navy.

Commenting on the addition of Rear Admiral Frick to the BMC leadership team, BMC Founder CAPT Edward Bartlett noted, “Rear Admiral Frick is ideally qualified to lead our Planning effort as we launch our expanded business operations in support of assisting the US Navy in addressing the submarine maintenance crisis.Early in our efforts, while we are working in a teaming environment with NAVSEA to plan new facilities, we are confident that Rear Admiral Frick’s experience will prove invaluable in this stage-setting developmental effort. In addition, we anticipate being tasked with planning our first major submarine availability even as we plan, develop, build, and equip our new facilities – leading us to rely further on Rear Admiral Frick’s experience and wisdom. We are pleased that Rear Admiral Frick has decided to return to his roots to lead the essential Planning function. Rear Admiral Frick and I have shared many career parallels, but surprisingly have only recently met. Both Rear Admiral Frick and I are “594 Tough”[2] and we both also served on Sturgeon and Los Angeles Class submarines before shifting our careers to focus on submarine design, construction, and life-cycle maintenance. After shifting our careers, both Rear Admiral Frick and I were deeply involved in both the Seawolf Class design/construction Program as well as in initially establishing the program and designing the Virginia Class submarine. This career commonality gives me great confidence in adding Rear Admiral Frick to the BMC team as our first senior leader with whom I have not previously worked. I look forward to working with Rear Admiral Frick now as a key member of this new team with our laser-sharp focus on most effectively supporting our US Navy customer in resolving the ongoing submarine maintenance crisis by expanding the capacity and capability of the Naval Shipyard industrial enterprise.”
